(1989)

Pinckney v. Van Damme

cyborg 1989 film
Several stuntmen and actors in the film ’Cyborg″ testified that Jean-Claude Van Damme would not pull his punches while rehearsing and filming fight scenes and repeatedly injured those employed on the set. During filming of a fight scene, defendant made physical contact when he kicked plaintiff’s right hand, and, although defendant had been instructed to hold his prop knife in a tuck close to his forearm, he held it up and struck plaintiff’s eye with the knife — who permanently lost his vision.  Plaintiff testified that defendant just stood there and did not say anything or help him.

Judgment: Defendant Jean-Claude Van Damme is ordered to pay an award to Plaintiff in the amount of $487,000
