Woods v. Universal City Studios, Inc.

12 monkeys 1995 film
Lebbeus Woods sues Universal City Studios, Inc. for infringement of his copyright in a drawing. In 1987, Woods created with graphite pencil a detailed drawing entitled “Neomechanical Tower (Upper) Chamber,” which depicted a chamber with a high ceiling, a chair mounted on a wall and a sphere suspended in front of the chair.  Plaintiff alleges that this design was completely copied and used in the film 12 Monkeys and seeks an injunction enjoining Universal from distributing the movie. See image comparison below:

Judgment: In favor of Plaintiff, which the court grants the injunction enjoining Universal from distributing and exhibiting 12 Monkeys. [The Parties then privately Settled the case.]
